Integrating

Citizen Science

Amplifying the impact of data and enhancing community capacity in environmental monitoring.

More data. More informed decisions.

Powered by you.

Citizen science offers a valuable way the community can contribute to environmental monitoring.

The role of citizen science is growing around the world, driven by citizen sciences’ ability to provide vast amounts of data, fill knowledge gaps, and foster community engagement.

Across the Healthy Waters Partnership, many organisations rely on citizen scientists and offer opportunities for the public to get involved.

However, very few of those citizen science programs contribute data to critical decision-making tools like the Waterways Report Card. Currently, only two programs have the rigorous, standardised methodology that ensures the data is credible and reliable for use in the Report Card.

We’re collaborating with Partners, and organisations on several projects to ensure the data collected by citizen scientists can be integrated into the Regional Report Cards.

Anyone can become a citizen scientist. In the Townsville Dry Tropics, there are many ways the community can help gather data and contribute to research that drives meaningful outcomes for the health of our rivers, creeks, and coasts.

Get involved and make a tangible impact with these citizen science opportunities.
